Triple Eight's Craig Lowndes ended Mark Winterbottom's run of pole positions in the single qualifying session for the second race in this weekend's Townsville 400.
Ford Performance Racing driver Winterbottom had plenty of single-lap speed again, but had to settle for the outside of the front row this time as Lowndes put in a 1m12.8533s in his Holden to take the top spot by 0.3 seconds.
Third on the grid marked a career best for David Reynolds (Kelly Racing Holden), and placed him ahead of race one winner Garth Tander.
Will Davison was fifth in the second FPR car, with Jason Bright showing better form than Saturday to complete row three for Brad Jones Racing.
Points leader Jamie Whincup was unusually far down the order in eighth for Triple Eight, behind Lee Holdsworth's Garry Rogers Holden.
