Jorge Lorenzo says he has not yet decided whether to take a cautious approach to this weekend's Malaysian Grand Prix, knowing that all he needs is a ninth place to wrap up his first MotoGP title.
With Dani Pedrosa's injuries ruling him at least for one more weekend, Lorenzo is now unopposed in the championship fight, and needs just seven more points to be sure of the crown. The Yamaha rider said his preference was to keep pushing hard rather than cruising for ninth, but that he had yet to make a firm decision.
"I would like to run the race with confidence and speed, not thinking too much about the championship or the points, because I like to enjoy the race," said Lorenzo. "But this race is going to be very important, maybe the most important race in all my life, so I don't know how I'm going to act."
He also feels it is important that he manages to savor this weekend, and admitted that only misfortune was likely to stop him becoming champion in Malaysia.
"It could be a very special weekend for me, my team, my family and all the people who support me," Lorenzo said. We must be very concentrated, and enjoy every minute, every hour of this weekend. Let's see what happens. We hope that the bad luck doesn't come to us."
