Jorge Lorenzo reckons practice times at Silverstone today will prove largely irrelevant as the track will speed up so much during the weekend. The championship leader was quickest in the first MotoGP session at the revised circuit, beating Casey Stoner by 0.2sec.
"You can't pay too much attention to the times," said Lorenzo. "I believe there's one second, or 1.5 seconds to improve. The pole position will be around 1-1.5 seconds quicker."
He was positive about his first experience of the Silverstone Arena track.
"It's fun. Fun and with some complicated braking zones because there are no visual references to start braking, so we still have to get used to a couple of braking zones," Lorenzo said. "It reminds me of China, because of how wide it is, because of the landscape and the types of corners. Not the whole circuit, but it has parts from other circuits. It's very bumpy."
Lorenzo added that he had felt more settled at Silverstone so far, having admitted that he had not been at his best at Mugello two weeks ago ago, when Valentino Rossi's accident suddenly made him Yamaha's sole works rider.
"At Mugello, I didn't have a lot of fun with the bike, but in this practice I had a lot of fun again and if we continue like this I think we can get a good result," he said.
