Jorge Lorenzo said going back to the very first setup he ever tried on a 1000cc Yamaha was the key to his Brno MotoGP pole.
The championship leader had trailed title rival Dani Pedrosa through practice, but while the Honda rider fell in qualifying and could only manage third, Lorenzo stormed to pole with a record lap. Lorenzo admitted he had been struggling until the set-up change.
"We started in a very good way in the first practice but then we couldn't improve the bike," he said. "We tried everything and it was impossible. So we came back to last year's setting here from the first time I tried the 1000cc and from the beginning I felt much better. So much better.
"I just enjoyed riding and improving the lap time more and more. We tried a new fork that didn't work then we came back to the previous one to do the fast lap and beat the track record."
The Spaniard added that he would go into Sunday's grand prix very confident in his Yamaha's pace after the qualifying breakthrough.
"I have a very good feeling again, very good pace and I think we are ready for tomorrow," said Lorenzo.
