Lola B11/40Lola has unveiled its latest-generation LMP2 car in preparation for the new 2011 rules.

Under next year's regulations for Le Mans and affiliated series, LMP2 will run to a cost cap, and GT production engines will be able to be used in chassis. The Lola B11/40 is the first 2011 design to be unveiled and is capable of running BMW, Ford, HPD, Jaguar, Nissan or Toyota engines.

The changes to LMP2 are part of Le Mans organizer the Automobile Club de L'Ouest's efforts to ensure that the secondary prototype class remains the natural home for privateer teams while manufacturers focus on LMP1.

Lola has been a popular choice with customer teams throughout LMP2's history, with its cars winning the class at Le Mans three times.

The company will issue details of the coupe version of the LMP2 plus its new LMP1 in the coming weeks.
