Korean GP sponsor LG says it has no doubts that its country's inaugural grand prix will go ahead later this year, despite fresh doubts about the event.
Speculation in the build-up to the German Grand Prix had suggested that the Korean venue would not be ready in time for October's first race. However, race organizers issued a statement earlier this week saying the circuit was on course to be completed in August – and that FIA race director Charlie Whiting was happy with progress following a recent site visit.
LG's Executive Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer Dermot Boden said at Hockenheim that his information out of the country was that everything was being done to make sure the race goes ahead.
"I live in Korea, I've been living there for two and a half years, and this race is going to occur," he said during an announcement confirming an LG sponsorship deal with Red Bull Racing. "The Koreans are passionate, driven and committed. They are very focused on delivering on their Key Performance Indicators and I want to be clear – we will have a race in Korea. I strongly believe that and I don't have any reason to doubt that.
"The Koreans will want to deliver not just a race but an outstanding race, and I think they will do that."
