Fabio Leimer set the fastest time on the second day of GP2 testing at Abu Dhabi.
The 21-year-old Swiss, who finished 19th in his rookie GP2 season with Ocean this year, was running for a second day with Rapax and topped the times in both the morning and afternoon sessions. He was two tenths quicker than GP2 veteran Luca Filippi (Coloni) in the morning and a tenth faster than Josef Kral (Addax) after lunch.
Filippi, replacing yesterday's pacesetter James Jakes at Coloni, left it until the last five minutes of morning running to topple Charles Pic from second spot, on the Frenchman's second day at Addax, having raced with Arden this season.
Kral, also in his second day at Addax having raced for Super Nova this year, improved on his fourth place in the morning to take second in the afternoon. Dani Clos (Ocean) took over at Ocean Racing today and edged out the man he replaced, Sam Bird – now with DAMS – for third place this afternoon. Esteban Gutierrez finished best of the rookies, fifth fastest in both sessions.
Of the other rookies to breach the top 10, Andrea Caldarelli 10th and sixth for Racing Engineering, Jolyon Palmer was eighth in the morning for iSport and Italian Kevin Ceccon (who raced in Spanish F3 this year) was 10th on his second afternoon at Coloni.
