Rally Italy qualifying stage winner Jari-Matti Latvala has chosen to run last of the World Rally Cars on the road as expected.
With no threat of rain in Sardinia, the continued hot weather will mean the resurfaced gravel roads on the Italian island will sweep clean and get faster and faster with each car that passes. Citroen's Khalid Al-Qassimi will have the dubious honor of opening the road on Friday.
Latvala said picking the start slot had been easy this time.
"I'm obviously very happy with having achieved the fastest time, which gives us a great position to start from," said the Volkswagen driver. "I had a good feeling about the qualifying session, having already tried out the soft tires in the morning. Choosing the position wasn't remotely difficult, considering the hot and dry weather conditions.
"Tomorrow, we will have to try to always stay on the clean part of the course. The tracks are very narrow and there are lots of large rocks and boulders scattered along the sides."
The drivers selected their positions in the precise reverse order in which they qualified. Latvala will follow directly behind second-quickest driver Evgeny Novikov's M-Sport Ford.
