Darryl O'Young will start on pole position for the World GT1 qualifying race at Navarra, after his Reiter Lamborghini team-mate Peter Kox set the fastest time ahead of the third round of the championship.
On a circuit where the Lamborghini Murcielago has dominated in GT1's past two visits, Kox ensured the Gallardo would continue its predecessor's form by setting the fastest time in the opening segment of qualifying. O'Young took over and guided the car into the pole position shoot-out, where Kox finished four tenths ahead of the rest of the pack.
The Vita4One team carried over its strong form from Zolder, taking second and third positions on the grid, with the Michael Bartels/Yelmer Buurman BMW Z4 edging out the Mathias Lauda/Nikolaus Mayr-Melnhof car by three tenths. Nicky Pastorelli qualified his Mercedes in fourth, but a five-place grid penalty for ignoring yellow flags will see the All-Inkl squad start in ninth.
The second row will instead be completed by last round's winners Matt Haliday and Mike Parisy, in the Exim Bank Team China Porsche.
Stephane Ortelli (WRT Audi) looked set to take a front row grid slot, before being held up by Bartels in the final sector and will line up fifth.
Alvaro Parente was fastest in Q2, but his team-mate Gregoire Demoustier could not repeat the performance, and the Hexis McLaren will start in sixth, ahead of the very impressive Matteo Cressoni/Milos Pavlovic Ford GT.
The first AF Corse Ferrari will line up in eighth, followed by the relegated Pastorelli, with the second Audi of Frank Stippler and Oliver Jarvis completing the top 10.
