TOPEKA, Kan. (Jan. 26, 2007) – The start of a new year means the start of a new SCCA Club Racing National season, and with a new Division and five new National classes, 2007 will be a year to remember. The season is already well underway, with Southeast and Southern Pacific National races already in the books and a number of Divisions gearing up for their first events of the year.
The Southeast Division wasted no time kicking off the 2007 Club Racing National Season, holding its first race January 6 – 7 at Sebring International Raceway, in Sebring, Fla. Racers didn’t have very far to go as the next Southeast Club National event was also in sunny Florida the following weekend, January 13 – 14 at Homestead-Miami Speedway, closing out the traditional Winter Nationals.
Club racers taking part might have noticed some new cars and new faces; classes making their Club Racing National Debut in 2007 include Super Touring (ST), B Prepared (BP), D Prepared (DP), Formula SCCA (FSCCA) and F1000 (FB).
Also racing on the January 13-14 was the Southern Pacific division, who began its season with a double National at Phoenix International Raceway in Avondale, Ariz. Southern Pacific National racers will hit the track again this weekend, January 27-28, at California Speedway, in Fontana, Calif.
The Southern Pacific crew aren’t the only ones starting their season with a double National, the Southwest division’s National opener at MSR Houston, in Angleton,Texas, February 16-18, will be a doubleheader, as will Norpac’s first National race of 2007 at Thunderhill Park, in Willows, Calif., March 16 – 18.
The Midwest Division will also begin its season in March, running in Memphis, Tenn., at Memphis Motorsports Park, March 11.
The Rocky Mountain, Northeast, and Great Lakes divisions are all hoping to be thawed in time for their National openers in April. Rocky Mountain and Northeast National seasons will both commence the weekend of April 14-15 at Pueblo
Motorsports Park (Pueblo, Colo.) and Summit Point (Charlestown, W.V.), respectively, while the newly-formed Great Lakes division will hold off until April 28 - 29 for its first National race at Gingerman Raceway, in South Haven, Mich.
The latest Club National season opener will occur in the blustery Central Division, May 5 - 6 at Blackhawk Farms, in Beloit, Ill.
