Lada World Touring Car team boss Viktor Shapovalov is confident that the outfit has made significant progress with its new Priora car following a test at Zolder last week.

James Thompson raced the new car at Porto and Brands Hatch, and the factory-supported Russian Bears Motorsport team is scheduled to run three Prioras in the next race at Oschersleben.

Thompson and Jaap van Lagen carried out the testing work on both the Priora and the old 110 model.

"It was an interesting test day at Zolder and we completed a lot of extremely useful work," said Shapovalov. "For us, Zolder is a very convenient solution as it is located just 30 minutes away from our new workshop in Grobbendonk.

"Over the course of the day we were able to try out various different solutions, which showed a lot of potential. We will continue now to work hard on development in order to keep on improving the car all the way to the end of the season."

Thompson will miss the WTCC round at Oschersleben due to prior commitments in the Australian V8 Supercar championship, so Shapovalov will come out of the retirement from driving he took before the Porto rounds to drive the third car in Germany.

The team will test again at Magny-Cours on August 22 before the races at Oschersleben on September 6.
