Roberto la Rocca will race in the GP3 Series this year after becoming the first signing for new team Bamboo Engineering.
The 21-year-old Venezuelan is driving for the team this week during official series testing at Estoril the first occasion on which the heavily-modified 2013-spec car has been available to teams.
"Roberto has the right attitude and recognizes that GP3 will be a steep learning curve," said team CEO Richard Coleman. "He has shown promise during testing and we're confident he will build his skills throughout the year."
La Rocca finished 10th in the European F3 Open, despite missing the first three rounds. He feels that his decision to move into GP3 with Bamboo, which announced this week that it had taken over Atech's entry, has come at the perfect time.
"I'm delighted to be signing with Bamboo Engineering, we've had a great few days of testing and I'm eager to sign and start working towards the season," said la Rocca. "Taking the step up to GP3 is a big one but I feel it's a natural progression for me after winning Formula 2000 last season."
Bamboo is also running GP3 race winner Lewis Williamson, series regular Ethan Ringel and Formula Ford GB graduate Ryan Cullen in Estoril testing.
