Kyle Busch dominated at Lowe's Motor Speedway on his way to his seventh Nationwide series win of the season as he continues to close on this year's title.
The series points leader ended an 11-race winless streak by leading 137 out of the scheduled 200 laps under the lights at Charlotte.
Following a disappointing outing at Fontana last weekend, where he had to leave the race due to illness only to see Denny Hamlin crash his car while fighting for the lead, the 24-year-old bounced back to recover some of what he lost last Saturday.
Starting from fifth, Busch claimed the lead from Matt Kenseth on lap 22 following a restart due to the first caution of the day. From then on he was mostly unchallenged and only Jeff Burton looked capable of fending him off, after Burton grabbed the lead during the second caution of the race. However, on lap 87 Busch got back ahead, and only different sequences for the final stops allowed other drivers to lead for a few laps. After his final pit stop, Busch looked to be slightly short on fuel to complete the 200 laps, but a further caution for an accident involving Kevin Conway allowed him to stretch his fuel mileage enough in the end.
His 28th Nationwide series career victory allows him to increase his lead in the championship to 195 points to Carl Edwards with just four races remaining, which edges him closer to his maiden NASCAR title.
"This thing was on a rail tonight," Busch said. "That's a great racecar. I'm sorry to my guys about last week, having to get out there and Denny was doing an awesome job but unfortunately got caught up in a mess, that I don't think anybody could have gotten out of.
"He did a heck of a job driving for us, but we had some points to make up and we made up some tonight hopefully."
Mike Bliss and Dave Blaney impressed with second and third place, respectively, making great charges throughout the race although they never challenged Busch up front. Brian Vickers was fourth, being one of the last drivers to pit for the final time, hoping a rain threat materialized while he was in the lead.
Some drops started falling but only after the race had finished, the weather not affecting the outcome of the race.
Polesitter Edwards was fifth ahead of Brad Keselowski and Ryan Newman, who drove for Kevin Harvick's team this weekend. Behind them Kasey Kahne recovered from being two laps down after he was black-flagged due his window net coming down.
Jeff Burton and Tony Raines rounded out the top-10 ahead of Tony Stewart, who drove for Dale Earnhardt Jr's team.
