Audi's Tom Kristensen was quickest between red flags in a truncated final practice session before qualifying for the Petit Le Mans at Road Atlanta.
A total of three stoppages interrupted, and then curtailed, the one-hour session. The first red flag was required to retrieve the stranded Performance Tech LMPC car, the second when the No. 15 OAK Racing Pescarolo went off at Turn 2, and the last for a big crash between the Robertson Racing Doran Ford and Intersport's No. 89 LMPC entry at the first corner. The session was abandoned after the latter, with 11 minutes left on the clock.
Before the red flag, Kristensen had put the No. 2 Audi in front with a 1m10.179s lap, 0.168sec ahead of Anthony Davidson in the No. 7 Peugeot.
The No. 1 Audi and No. 8 Peugeot were a further half-second back. It was again an all-diesel top five, with ORECA's older Peugeot following on. Dyson was the quickest gas-powered team, courtesy of Steven Kane in its No. 20 Lola-Mazda.
BMW held first and second again in GT with Dirk Muller leading Dirk Werner, 0.066sec apart, ahead of the No. 062 AF Corse and No. 51 Risi Ferraris, and the No. 3 Corvette.
Signatech's Jean-Karl Vernay, CORE Autosport's Gunnar Jeanette and Black Swan Racing's Jeroen Bleekemolen topped LMP2, LMPC and GTC, respectively.
