Kentucky Speedway's owner, Bruton Smith, has scheduled a news conference at the track on Aug. 10. Speculation is that he will announce that the track will finally be getting a Sprint Cup race, reports the Cincinnati Enquirer.
The track has hosted the IndyCar Series and NASCAR Nationwide and Truck Series events. The track was purchased by Smith's company, Speedway Motorsports Inc. two years ago. Smith, whose other tracks include Texas Motor Speedway, Charlotte Motor Speedway and Infineon Raceway – all of which host Sprint Cup races – has been working ever since to bring NASCAR's top series to the track.
It's likely that the date will be transferred from another SMI track, possibly New Hampshire International Speedway.
