Katherine Legge will confirm later this week that she is returning to North American open-wheel racing, according to multiple media reports.
Now 31, British driver Legge became a fan favorite in the Champ Car World Series after winning races in Champ Car's Atlantic Championship feeder series. She spent the 2006 and '07 seasons in Champ Car, driving for PKV Racing in '06, then joined Dale Coyne Racing the following year. Left out of a ride following Champ Car's unification with IndyCar, she switched to Germany's DTM touring car series but returned to the U.S. this year with the aim of landing an IndyCar ride.
The identity of Legge's new team remains unknown. KV Racing – the IndyCar incarnation of her first Champ Car squad – could be one option. Coyne's team also has yet to announce its plans, but team owner Dale Coyne told SPEED.com on Monday that he hopes to retain both of his 2011 drivers, Sebastien Bourdais and James Jakes.
