Karting legend Martin Hines has passed away at the age of 64.
Hines won 17 karting titles during a remarkable career, including FIA world championships in 1983, '91 and '92, five European titles, and six British crowns. But he was equally successful off-track in the karting world, with his Zip Kart business and Young Guns team instrumental in developing the careers of many of the leading British drivers of recent decades.
David Coulthard and Lewis Hamilton are among the Formula 1 drivers who benefited from Hines' guidance during their formative years in motorsport.
Hines' son Luke also went into motor racing, establishing a successful career in touring cars and more recently sports car racing.
