Defending Star Mazda champion team JDC Motorsports announced Ashley Freiberg as its second driver for the 2012 season, alongside Juan Piedrahita. Freiberg, in essence, steps into the car vacated by Tristan Vautier, who has advanced into Indy Lights for 2012.
Freiberg has made several Star Mazda starts with a fifth place at the Autobahn Country Club in Joliet, Ill., her best finish. She now enters her first full season in the championship on the strength of backing from TrueCar as one of its six sponsored drivers in its “Women Empowered Initiative.”
Her prior success included winning both Skip Barber National races and a championship in 2010. Later in the year she was selected as a finalist for the Team USA Scholarship award, given to promising young American drivers.
“It's hard to express how excited I am for this opportunity that TrueCar has given me," she said. “I have an awesome team around me, with TrueCar, JDC, Burke Harrison and Mike Zimicki. I am thrilled for the chance to work and learn with all of them this season.”
