Neel JaniNeel Jani expects to be sidelined for a month after injuring himself in a mountain biking accident near his home in Switzerland last week.

The 25-year-old, who won the 2007/8 A1GP title with Team Switzerland, broke his elbow and fractured his wrist in the incident. He was kept in hospital over night and had stitches on his forehead and around his right eye.

"I don't really remembered what happened," Jani told AUTOSPORT. "I'd ridden up a hill near my house - and set a new personal best time -- and I was on the way back. I'd already got out of the forest, so I'd done the dangerous downhill bit, and was back onto the normal road when it happened.

"It was next to a construction site, so maybe there was a piece of wood that I hit. I just remember looking at my helmet, which was completely broken, and a bus driver helping me get up because I couldn't explain where I was or what I was doing."

Jani is set to lead Switzerland's challenge in the next A1GP season, which begins at Surfers Paradise in Australia in October, and says he should recover in time to get back behind the wheel in early September.

"I've seen plenty of guys with cycling injuries that were a lot more complicated than these," he added. "Mine are quite straightforward, so I know pretty much exactly how long it's going to take to heal. I'll be fine in a month."
