Veteran road racer Jack Baldwin has signed with GTSport Racing and Porsche Napleton Racing (PNR) – for a full-season campaign in a GTS class Porsche Cayman S in the 2012 Pirelli World Challenge with Team Hot Wheels, reuniti9ng a famous partnership from the heyday of the SCCA Trans-Am Championship.
Baldwin and Hot Wheels captured the 1992 Trans-Am title and now return 20 years later in search of more title-winning success in a premier SCCA Pro Racing division. The car of a choice for the new effort is a Pirelli Cayman Interseries-based Porsche Cayman S that has been modified to compete in the GTS class. The Cayman S was built and will be maintained by PNR, the racing division of leading Chicago area Porsche dealer Napleton Porsche of Westmont, and will be entered by GTSport Racing. Additional primary partners for the effort include Voodoo Ride car care products and InvoicePrep, an industry leader in helping law firms streamline their invoice preparation process.
“The original Hot Wheels program was a winner on and off the track,” said Baldwin, who is also a two-time IMSA Camel GTU champion. “We won races and the 1992 championship while the actual Hot Wheels models of our Camaros turned out to be some of the best-selling Hot Wheels of all time. We are shooting for nothing short of similar success this time around in the Pirelli World Challenge with not only Hot Wheels but Voodoo Ride, InvoicePrep and all of our great sponsor partners."
The new Team Hot Wheels Porsche Cayman S features the iconic Hot Wheels logo but every other element of the design is a completely new and modern departure from the livery of the original race cars. The Cayman S itself is based on the popular Interseries cars with the necessary competition and performance upgrades for the step up to Pirelli World Challenge competition.
The opening two races of the 2012 Pirelli World Challenge will take place with a doubleheader on the streets of St. Petersburg, March 23-25.
