The final entry list for the Gold Coast 600 has been announced, with International drivers paired into their V8 Supercar drives. The Oct. 22-24 event, now the headliner for the annual Surfers Paradise street race following the departure of the Indy cars, will feature a number of IZOD IndyCar regulars, including championship contenders Will Power and Dario Franchitti, as well as former F1 World Champion Jacques Villeneuve, Grand-Am champ Scott Pruett and American Porsche factory driver Patrick Long, among many others.
Franchitti reckons the Gold Coast 600 has the makings of "the greatest touring car race the world has seen.
"The amount of interest this event has generated internationally in a short amount of time has been amazing," said the Scot. "When you look at the cars, the drivers, the fan base and the event I cannot think of another touring car race anywhere or at anytime that comes close to what this will be.
"The Gold Coast event is one of the most special in world motorsports and to have the chance to go back down there and race – in no less than a V8 Supercar – is going to be something pretty special," he added.
As expected, V8 Supercar championship contenders James Courtney, Jamie Whincup and Mark Winterbottom will retain their co-drivers from Phillip Island and Bathurst, with International drivers joining their teammates at Jim Beam Racing, Triple Eight and Ford Performance Racing, respectively.
This means multiple World Touring Car Champion Andy Priaulx joins Craig Lowndes at Triple Eight, Australian IndyCar Series leader Will Power teams with Steven Richards at FPR, and this year's Indy 500 winner Dario Franchitti joins Steven Johnson in the No. 17 Jim Beam Racing entry.
Aussie IndyCar star Ryan Briscoe will move across the Walkinshaw Racing garage for the Gold Coast 600, teaming with Will Davison in the No. 22 Toll Holden Racing Team entry as opposed to the No. 10 Bundy Red Racing Commodore he will drive alongside Andrew Thompson at Bathurst. Former Formula 1 driver Mika Salo will join Thompson.
