Vasco Rossi, the Trident Racing mechanic who was injured in a pitlane accident at Spa yesterday, has regained consciousness and is expected to leave hospital within the next couple of days.

Rossi, who is the number one mechanic on the car of Davide Rigon, was injured when a wheel gun was left in the path of Ricardo Teixeira's car as he was leaving the pits to join the dummy grid, causing the air hose to get caught by the rear wheel and dragging a metal beam down on to Rossi's head.

He was briefly placed in a medically-induced coma, and was given the all-clear last night after MRI scans came up negative.
