Race fans are invited to a free sneak peek Feb. 25 (9 a.m.-5 p.m.) of the new IZOD IndyCar Series car as six drivers are scheduled to test at Infineon Raceway. Among the half dozen is Formula 1 veteran Rubens Barrichello in a KV Racing Technology car. The 11-time F1 winner, who tested the car in late January at Sebring International Raceway, is still evaluating a switch to IndyCar racing.
Others scheduled to take part are JR Hildebrand (National Guard Panther Racing), E.J. Viso (KV Racing Technology), Ryan Hunter-Reay (Andretti Autosport) and Will Power and Ryan Briscoe (Team Penske).
"Infineon is one of the most challenging places to test and develop a car," said Viso, who will have Citgo as the primary sponsor for his full season with KV Racing Technology. "It's a great decision. We pretty have much everything in that track. Drivers and engineers have to work together, especially regarding dampers, aerodynamics, traction, braking. I'm looking forward to seeing how the Chevy engine performs on that track."
The IZOD IndyCar Series will make its eighth visit to the road course Aug. 24-26 for the Indy Grand Prix of Sonoma.
Race fans will be allowed to watch the test session from the main grandstand, wander around the paddock and attend a driver press conference at noon (space permitting). The Raceway Café will be open from 8 a.m.-2 p.m., and the raceway is planning an up-close look at the new car with a Tech Talk session in the Wine Country Winner's Circle during the lunch hour.
The raceway will feature a number of ticket packages at the test session, highlighted by the launch of the raceway's new INDYCAR Total Access Tech Ticket, which includes a reserved Sunday ticket, Garage/Pit/Pre-Race Pass and race-day Q&A featuring an inside look at the 2012 race car for $99.
