Indianapolis 500 champion Tony Kanaan, two-time IZOD IndyCar Series champion Scott Dixon and 2011 Firestone Indy Lights champion and current IZOD IndyCar Series driver Josef Newgarden were present for the announcement during the “Forza Motorsport 5” Showcase in Los Angeles as part of E3 2013, an event celebrating the upcoming release of the game.
“IndyCar fans have been asking to see IZOD IndyCar Series cars in a console game for some time, and partnering with industry leaders such as Microsoft and Turn 10 Studios certainly satisfies that wish,” said Greg Gruning, IndyCar's executive vice president for corporate business development. “We couldn't have better partners to showcase our sport to a young, technology-driven demographic than with the platform provided by the Xbox One and ‘Forza Motorsports 5.' ”
The game will also feature Formula 1 cars, including the 1976 McLaren M23 and the 1976 Ferrari 312-2 driven by Niki Lauda and James Hunt during the 1976 F1 season, as depicted in Ron Howard's upcoming feature film Rush. The F1 cars will be available as a free download to all "Forza Motorsport 5" players at launch. The game will also incorporate cars from the Bob Bondurant School of High Performance Driving
The new version of "Forza" is based on the "Drivatar", a profile created based on how the player drives. It will monitor every tendency behind the wheel, from how you handle turns to how you brake. It's then created and sent to the cloud, where that Drivatar will appear in friends' games.
On the IndyCar side, “Forza Motorsport 5” will feature cars representing IndyCar teams Andretti Autosport (Ryan Hunter-Reay), Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing (Graham Rahal), Target Chip Ganassi Racing (Scott Dixon) and Team Penske (Will Power).
“Including open-wheel cars in ‘Forza Motorsport 5' brings Forza fans a whole new world of racing action,” said Alan Hartman, studio manager for Turn 10 Studios. “Players will be able to drive these incredible cars on a collection of world-famous race circuits. In addition, the brand-new graphics engine in 'Forza Motorsport 5', powered by the Xbox One, will let Forza players get closer than ever to these amazing cars and to really build an appreciation for these masterpieces of race engineering.”
“Forza Motorsport 5” will be available exclusively on Xbox One at launch this fall. Players can reserve their copy of the “Forza Motorsport 5 Day One Edition” now at www.xbox.com.
