Although its IndyCar CEO, Randy Bernard, had previously indicated that the 2012 IZOD IndyCar Series race schedule would be released on Thursday or Friday of last week, no official announcement was made and he stated on Twitter that the calendar will now be confirmed later this week.
“We are currently completing the final details of our schedule and look forward to sharing our schedule with our fans, competitors and partners,” said Bernard. The 2012 Firestone Indy Lights season also will be announced in the coming days.
It's already been confirmed that the schedule will kick off March 23-25 with the eighth annual Honda Grand Prix of St. Petersburg. A provisional calendar featuring 15 race dates appeared briefly on IndyCar's official website last Thursday before being taken down.
