IndyCar new chassis to be delayed?

While the IZOD IndyCar Series is moving ahead with plans to decide on its best options for new chassis and engines, newly appointed CEO Randy Bernard hinted at St. Petersburg that the planned introduction of new cars for 2012 could be placed on hold.

“I want to know who can afford one in this economy,” Bernard told Autoweek. “Maybe we have to wait another year."

Bernard added that he had asked Gil de Ferran, the team owner representative on IndyCar's new advisory committee, to survey his colleagues on whether they feel financially secure enough to absorb the cost of new equipment. Roger Penske, for one, told Autoweek that he preferred to keep the current Dallara for 2012, fitted with new engines if necessary.
