IndyCar officials have admitted that the scheduled June 30 announcement regarding the 2012 IndyCar chassis is not a hard deadline. IndyCar CEO Randy Bernard told the Indianapolis Star, "I don't want to jeopardize (potential) contracts just to make the June 30 date," he said. "But we'll have something to say by (the stated deadline)."

However, Bernard – who in the past had suggested that 2012 might be too early to adopt new chassis in the current economic climate, appears to have changed his mind. Asked to give odds that the new chassis would be ready by then, Bernard said, "85-15."

IndyCar's ICONIC advisory committee studying new engine and chassis proposals heard presentations from the five chassis groups (DeltaWing, Swift, Dallara, Lola and BAT) last week. Everyone involved with the process signed a confidentiality agreement requested by Bernard.
