IndyCar officials announced 10 grid spot penalties for the four cars for this weekend's event at Sonoma, as well as an update regarding the status of fresh engines remaining for each team for the remaining three races of the season.
Facing penalties this weekend are Takuma Sato (will be using sixth engine at Sonoma); Sebastian Saavedra (unapproved engine change at Indianapolis); Justin Wilson (unapproved engine change between Mid-Ohio and Sonoma);and Simona De Silvestro (using seventh engine at Sonoma).
IndyCar rules state that each full-season entrant will be provided with no more than five fresh built engines throughout each year covered by an engine service agreement. Using more than five in a season will result in a penalty. Engines beyond the fifth fresh engine may be fresh or part-used.
