The Indianapolis Motor Speedway is holding an online auction to help the American Red Cross' disaster relief efforts following this week's earthquake in Haiti. Items on offer include a helmet signed by the majority of the 2009 Indianapolis 500 participants as well as many other pieces of signed Indy memorabilia. The auction can be accessed here.
Indy Racing League medical director Dr. Michael Olinger is among the medics called up by the U.S. government to head to Haiti. Dr. Olinger has previously worked in disaster relief with the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
"When I joined the IRL as medical director, I resigned my spot on Indiana Task Force One, but was placed as a medical support member on an alternate list," Olinger said. "I was the next to last guy on the list and they got all the way to me, so I'm on the way there."
