HOUSTON, Texas (July 31, 2009)
- The Houston Region Sports Car Club of America is hosting the "Fun in the Sun Double National" Club Racing event on August 8-9, at MSR Houston.
In addition to the final National races of the Southwest Division's 2009 season, the weekend will benefit The Sunshine Kids Foundation, a national non-profit organization dedicated to children with cancer.
"We are hoping to cap off a great National racing season with some fun for the Sunshine Kids," Sydney Davis, race chairman, said. "Our goal is not only to host successful races, but to help raise funds and awareness for The Sunshine Kids Foundation."
Spectators are invited to come out and enjoy the racing action at the Angleton track, located just off Hwy. 288 and South CR 48, about 35 minutes south of Downtown Houston.
"Our goal is to raise $5,000 for The Sunshine Kids Foundation," Davis said. "We will be collecting a gate fee of $5 for this event, and kids 12 under are free. We will also be accepting donations at the event registration."
The Sunshine Kids have been invited to come down and check out the racing action as well. This is one of few events where a wide variety of racecars will be showcased, everything from open-wheel cars to Spec Miatas to stock cars race in six groups throughout the day.
A practice/qualifying session for each group will take place Saturday morning with the first group racing before lunch. The other five groups will race following the break. Sunday's schedule is the same.
"As many of our drivers prepare for the National championships in September, this is one of the last chances to get some racing in before the big one," Davis said. "It should be a great showcase of talent."
Online registration is currently open for this event through Sunday, August 2 at midnight: http://www.dlbracing.com/Clubs/sowdivscca/clubrace.aspx?EventID=3704&LMID=1999
