Ron Hornaday drove to his record 50th win in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Saturday night at Kentucky Speedway.
Hornaday and Austin Dillon emerged 1-2 from the final round of green flag pit stops, and Hornaday needed to run flat out rather than needing to conserve fuel to secure the victory.
As the No. 2 truck for Kevin Harvick Inc. is in contention for the series' owners' championship, Hornaday was shifted to that truck from his usual No. 33 this race.
"Thank you Kevin and DeLana," Hornaday said. "I'm excited just from going around the track. I felt it got sideways a couple times, but Bruce tightened it up. I can't say thanks enough for Kevin and DeLana putting me in the 2 truck. I hope Cale (Gale) could get that 33 up there."
The win was also Hornaday's third of the year, with Kentucky joining Texas and Atlanta as the third 1.5-mile oval where he took the top spot. His first win came at Tucson Raceway Park in April 1995.
Dillon's second kept him atop the championship standings, but by only three points over James Buescher. Buescher kept the pressure on with a third-place finish.
"I just tried everything, and was driving so hard," Dillon said. "I got tight in traffic. I gained a lot on entry into the center, but I just got so tight that last run. We had a problem with the water temp getting high. It was close, and was a good points day."
Nelson Piquet Jr. and Brian Ickler completed the top five.
The series continues its 2011 season in two weeks time at Las Vegas, again as the Saturday feature on an IZOD IndyCar Series weekend.
