Ryan Briscoe will have primary sponsorship from Hitachi Automotive Systems for half the 2012 IZOD IndyCar Series schedule.
Hitachi debuts on Briscoe's No. 2 DW12-Chevrolet this weekend at Barber and will also be on the car at Long Beach, Calif., Sao Paulo, Brazil, Detroit, Mich., Toronto, Canada, Edmonton, Canada, Qingdao, China and Sonoma, Calif. The remaining races, it will be an associate sponsor for Briscoe and an additional sponsor for Team Penske teammates Will Power and Helio Castroneves.
Both Briscoe and Castroneves had Hitachi on their sidepods at last year's race in Motegi, Japan. The new car has provided an opportunity for Hitachi to work directly with the team, said team owner Roger Penske.
“Chevrolet and Ilmor Engineering have worked closely with Hitachi Automotive Systems on the development of the direct injection systems in the Chevrolet IndyCar engines,” Penske said. “We look forward to growing our relationship with Hitachi as a sponsor of the No. 2 car.”
Castroneves will also have a different livery this weekend, with AAA Insurance set to be on the No. 3 car that won at St. Petersburg.
