Highcroft Racing will build up a new Acura ARX-02a chassis in time for qualifying for the Petit Le Mans at Road Atlanta, following Scott Sharp's massive accident in second practice on Thursday. The team is shipping out a new tub from Honda Performance Development headquarters in California, after deciding that the original chassis was beyond repair.
The tub did not arrive in the paddock until 9 a.m. on Friday morning whereupon the team faced a race against time to have the car ready for competition.
Sharp was uninjured in the accident and will join David Brabham and Dario Franchitti as Highcroft seeks to protect its 17-point lead over rival Acura team De Ferran Motorsports.
