Rick Hendrick told ESPN.com
that his Hendrick Motorsports team is in discussions with Anheuser Busch officials about the possibility of Budweiser becoming a team sponsor after this season. Bud's contract with Kasey Kahne and Richard Petty Motorsports is up at the end of this year, and Kahne was announced last week as the new driver of Hendrick's No. 5, effective in 2012. In response to questions about whether Bud backing would conflict with Hendrick's Pepsi backing, Hendrick said that "depends on which car it's on."
Hendrick added that he would be willing to supply Martin with engines and chassis if the veteran opted to go into the owner driver route. After the announcement of Kahne's deal, Martin said he would consider becoming an owner if he could conclude a co-owner arrangement like the one Tony Stewart made with Gene Haas.
