Star Mazda champion Jack Hawksworth will contest the 2013 Firestone Indy Lights championship with Sam Schmidt Motorsports.
The 21-year-old Briton stormed to this year's crown, winning eight of the 16 races and taking 10 pole positions. He also made the final of the McLaren AUTOSPORT BRDC Award.
Hawksworth tested with Schmidt's team at Sebring in November.
Sam Schmidt Motorsports has been a dominant force in Indy Lights, winning the championship six times since its first season in 2002. Jean Vernay, Josef Newgarden and Tristan Vautier have been the last three Indy Lights champions, all driving for Schmidt's team.
"Very pleased to announce I will be racing for Sam Schmidt Motorsport in the 2013 Indy Lights series," Hawksworth posted on Twitter. "Big thank you to Mazda USA and everybody who helped put this together."
