Juho Hanninen has been strongly linked to a seat with Hyundai's new World Rally Championship programme, as the team promised it would announce its first driver in July.
The 31-year-old Finn is understood to be test driver for Hyundai's i20 WRC development car. The manufacturer would not be drawn on the identity of its test driver, beyond confirming he was not Korean.
Hanninen won the 2010 Intercontinental Rally Challenge title, and followed it up with WRC S2000 and European Rally Championship crowns over the following two years. Having parted with long-time employer Skoda, he began this season with two WRC outings in an M-Sport Ford.
2009 IRC champion and former Mini WRC driver Kris Meeke and ex-Suzuki WRC driver PG Andersson are high up Hyundai's list after Hanninen. Former works Subaru man Chris Atkinson, current M-Sport WRC driver Thierry Neuville, 2011 Production WRC champion Hayden Paddon and former Volkswagen protege Kevin Abbring are also thought to be under consideration.
Hanninen has also been linked with a Citroen WRC seat for Rally Finland at the start of August.
