Lewis Hamilton, Valencia, 2009McLaren has opted to run Lewis Hamilton with its new short-wheelbase configuration for the duration of the European Grand Prix at Valencia.

The World Champion used the car in free practice yesterday, but damaged a front-wing hanger on the nose during a spin in the second session.

Hamilton was then forced to sit out the rest of the day, because there were not enough spares and parts were not transferable from teammate Heikki Kovalainen's car. More parts have subsequently arrived at the track overnight.

Kovalainen will use the long wheelbase version of the MP4-24 this weekend. The Finn spent some time yesterday evaluating a new front wing and will race with a similar specification of car that Hamilton used to win the Hungarian Grand Prix.
