ART's Esteban Gutierrez took his second GP3 Series feature race pole in succession with a dominant performance at Silverstone this morning.
The times dropped incrementally for most of the session, with several drivers taking turns on top, but no one had an answer for the Mexican's 1m51.451s effort that left him a massive 0.589 second clear of nearest rival Rio Haryanto of Manor. The gap between the pair was equivalent to the margin that covered Haryanto and the eight drivers behind him.
Haryanto could perhaps count himself fortunate to have secured his front row spot as he encountered a spinning Tobias Hegewald on his best lap, which potentially could have been meant that his best time could have been set under yellows.
Nico Muller and Adrian Quaife-Hobbs will start from the second row ahead of Alexander Rossi and Daniel Morad.
Morad's Status teammate Robert Wickens benefited from an overnight engine change to go eighth-fastest, although he will start from 18th due to a 10-place grid penalty that is carried over from Valencia.
