The FIA GT1 series says it is weighing up a future street race in Beijing after staging a demonstration run on the city streets to mark the end of its Chinese doubleheader.
The championship traveled to Ordos, Inner Mongolia, at the start of September for the eighth round of the season, before heading to Goldenport Park Circuit – a stand-in for the canceled round at Curitiba – in Beijing a week later.
As a celebration of the doubleheader, the series then held a street demonstration, including an exhibition race and pit stop challenge, on a street course which took in the iconic Bird's Nest stadium and nearby Water Cube aquatic center. More than 50,000 fans thronged the streets, bolstering GT1's plans to return to the principality for an official street race, possibly as early as 2012.
