The fight for Le Mans GT1 honours between the two works Chevrolet Corvettes appears to be over after the #64 car ground to a halt with just over two hours to go.
The #64 car, driven by Marcel Fassler, Oliver Gavin and Olivier Beretta, had been exchanging the class lead with the #63 machine of Jan Magnussen/Johnny O'Connell/Antonio Garcia.
Fassler was leading, with Garcia around a minute behind and closing, when the #64 car lost drive towards the end of the lap. Fassler is still trying to get it back to the pits. The team has not yet diagnosed the problem, but a transmission failure is suspected.
Gavin said: "It was going to be close. Certainly there would have been some racing on the last lap, which doesn't happen here very often."
The #63 car now has a lead of more than six laps over the #73 Luc Alphand Aventures Corvette.
