Bjorn Grossman has taken maximum points away from the first round of the Ferrari Challenge Trofeo Pirelli at Monza with a tight race two win over Niki Cadei.
Having staged an exciting wheel-to-wheel battle for the win in race one, Grossman and Cadei picked up where they left off in race two. The pair raced hard for the lead in the opening laps, with Cadei hounding the back of Grossman's blue 458 Challenge.
Grossman finally found himself with some breathing room five laps in when Cadei made an ambitious move for the lead into Ascari, running wide in the process. As a result the German gained a 1.5-second gap back to Cadei, but it only lasted until the safety car intervened with 10 minutes left to run. However, despite the caution period bunching the leaders up again, Grossman was too good, hanging on for victory by less than half a second.
Stefano Gai finished third, having never been close enough to look like challenging the leaders. He led home Dario Caso and Alexandr Skryabin.
After finishing third in race one, Andrii Kruglyk had a difficult second race that ended with a spin thanks to contact from Flavio Pierleoni at the first corner. Meanwhile, Alexey Basov took an early lead in the Coppa Shell away from Monza after winning race two from Raffaele Giannoni and Francisco Guedes.
