Romain Grosjean believes his 2013 Formula 1 campaign has been much stronger than the results suggest.
Despite vowing to achieve better consistency this year following his eventful first season back in F1 with Lotus, Grosjean is currently 12 points down on his mid-2012 tally and 85 points adrift of teammate Kimi Raikkonen. But he is adamant his driving has improved since last season and that it is just unfortunate circumstances that have got in the way.
"I think I've been pretty consistent as a driver for a while," Grosjean said. "It wasn't showing in the results – we had a difficult first four races with the mapping inside the car, which wasn't giving me a feeling at all. And then from Bahrain we found that and everything went better.
"In Barcelona the simulations say the pace was good for third position, but then the suspension broke. Monaco, OK, that was my weekend of mistakes, I wanted to go too quick the whole weekend. Then in Canada we were just slow and Silverstone was looking very good until the front wing broke early in the race.
