Double World Rally champion Marcus Gronholm will remain in hospital for further observation following his crash in practice for the X Games in Los Angeles on Saturday.
The Finn was knocked unconscious when his Ford Fiesta RallyCross car crashed into a concrete post during a practice run. A statement from his Best Buy team said that Gronholm's condition was improving and that he appeared to have escaped serious injury.
"Marcus was taken to hospital in Los Angeles for assessment of his injuries," said the statement. "Attending doctors are pleased that Marcus is conscious, alert and talking and has full limb mobility.
"Following his initial assessment, doctors confirmed this morning that his condition has improved overnight following a night's sleep and rest. Marcus will remain in hospital for ongoing observation and further tests and is benefiting from the best acute medical care."
Gronholm is focusing on the U.S.-based Global RallyCross series this year, and currently leads the championship.
