GP3 organizers have confirmed they are working on adding the series to the Monaco Grand Prix support bill for the first time next year.
The series revealed its 2012 calendar on Friday afternoon, including support events at seven of the European grands prix. That number will rise to eight if plans to race in Monaco are successful.
A similar plan was worked on for 2011, but it was scrapped in February because of a lack of space in the Principality to accommodate the 10 teams and 30 cars.
GP2 and GP3 CEO Bruno Michel said: "To see GP2 race in the streets of Monte Carlo would be a fantastic opportunity, and we are working hard to make this happen. We are currently waiting for confirmation from the ASN [local motorsport authority]."
Michel added that he was pleased with how GP3 is shaping up after its first two years of existence.
"Once again we are very pleased to confirm that the GP3 season will run alongside Formula 1 and GP2 in Europe," he said. "In such a competitive environment, it is key for young drivers to gain race experience on current Formula 1 tracks.
"Eleven drivers have so far graduated to GP2 which reaffirms our commitment to preparing young racers for the next step in their careers. Our young series is getting stronger each year and we are expecting 2012 to be just as successful and exciting."
