Schumacher happy with F2007 test

Michael Schumacher declared himself satisfied with his first Formula 1 test since April 2008 after reacclimatising using a 2007 vintage Ferrari at Mugello today. In preparation for his comeback substituting for the injured Felipe Massa in Valencia later this month, Schumacher completed 67 laps of the Italian track in the two-year-old car, which had been supplied by Ferrari's F1 Clienti department.

The Frenchman came out on top in a closely-fought qualifying session in which the top five cars were separated by just over a half a second. Lapierre's pole time of 1m32.020s aboard the lead ORECA-AIM 01 was just over one tenth of a second quicker than Stefan Mucke's best in the 007 Lola-Aston Martin.

Fauzy quickest in Portimao F-Renault practice

Fairuz Fauzy set the fastest time in practice for round seven of the Formula Renault 3.5 series at Portimao on Friday morning. The Malaysian's 1m32.166s today was 0.5s faster than Le Mans pole-winner Jon Lancaster, while Oliver Turvey was third for Carlin Motorsport after being forced to change an engine after Thursday's opening collective test. Team-mate Jaime Alguersuari also opted for a fresh engine today, and the ensuing restricted running left the Formula 1 racer in unfamiliar ground in 23rd.
 

Van der Garde scores first GP2 win

An excellent drive under constant pressure earned iSport's Giedo van der Garde his maiden GP2 Series win in today's sprint race at the Hungaroring. Van der Garde spent the entire race being chased by Super Nova's Luca Filippi, with the gap between the pair never stretching to more than a few tenths of a second. He also had to survive a restart late in the race when the safety car was brought out to allow the track to be cleaned after Ricardo Teixeira spun and dragged most of the gravel trap back onto the circuit with him, but the Dutchman kept his cool, took advantage of the tight Hungaroring layout, and led Filippi across the line by a scant 0.3 seconds.
