A Trident Racing mechanic has been hospitalized following a pitlane accident in the lead-up to today's GP2 race at Spa-Francorchamps.
The mechanic, Vasco Rossi, suffered serious head injuries following the incident, which was triggered when a rattle gun was left in the path of Ricardo Teixeira's rear wheel as the Angolan was leaving the pits to join the dummy grid.
Teixeira's car snagged the cable as he was accelerating into pitlane and brought heavy sections of pit equipment crashing down onto Rossi's head.
A team spokesperson told AUTOSPORT that Rossi's injury was not life-threatening, however he has been placed in a medically-induced coma.
The accident forced the start afternoon's race to be delayed by 15 minutes while Rossi received medical attention.
