Rodolfo GonzalezFormer British Formula 3 national class winner Rodolfo Gonzalez will make his GP2 main series debut at the Nurburgring this weekend, replacing Davide Rigon at Trident.

The 23-year-old Venezuelan, who is currently racing in the Euroseries 3000 with Fisichella Motor Sport, has previous GP2 experience in the shape of four rounds of the 2008/9 Asia Series with FMS, where he achieved a best result of eighth in the sprint race at Sepang.

Whether the move to Trident proves to be permanent appears to depend upon Rigon's efforts to find enough financial backing to reclaim his seat, with the team having indicated its desire to continue working with the Italian.

"The team is currently waiting for some responses regarding the economic support that would allow Davide Rigon to keep running from the upcoming round," said a team statement. "As Trident Racing invested in Rigon with confidence, the whole team is looking forward to some positive news, and to see him back in the car soon."
