GP2 will remain part of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix support package next season, despite the main series not venturing outside Europe in 2011, with the championship confirming that the 2011/2012 Asia series will feature in Yas Marina's Formula 1 weekend instead.
This year the main GP2 Series culminated in Abu Dhabi, but the 2011 calendar, which was announced yesterday, will finish at Monza as part of the Italian Grand Prix bill on Sept. 10-11. However, the Abu Dhabi GP program will feature GP2 Asia instead, as it did during the circuit's opening year in 2009.
Yas Marina will also host GP2 Asia early in 2011, when the spring Asia series opens in Abu Dhabi on Feb.11-12, before heading to Bahrain for two more dates. The early 2011 Asia championship will feature the first appearance of the new third-generation GP2 car.
