Giancarlo FisichellaFormer grand prix drivers Jacques Villeneuve and Giancarlo Fisichella have joined the new i1 Supercar Series.

The championship will use Radical SR3 cars for its inaugural season, which will visit the Buddh International circuit in India, the Yas Marina circuit in Abu Dhabi, the Losail circuit in Qatar, Sepang in Malaysia and Sakhir in Bahrain.

Villeneuve and Fisichella will be joined by former and current GP drivers like Jean Alesi, Tonio Liuzzi, Heinz-Harald Frentzen, Karun Chandhok and Mika Salo, according to Indian media.

Part-time 2011 IndyCar driver Pippa Mann has also said she will be involved in the new championship, but it will not preclude her continuing to seek a full season 2012 IndyCar ride.

The series will kick off on Jan. 21 and will finish on March 11 after five rounds.

The championship will also see several young Indian drivers competing in it, with organizers having split the drivers into three categories: International, Indian International and Indians.
