General Motors has scheduled a press conference for Monday afternoon in Detroit to discuss "updates on GM business activities." GM CEO Ed Whitacre is expected to address the media, but no indication has been given by GM about what will be discussed at the press conference. An update on the future of Saab is one likely scenario, after speculation has mounted in recent days regarding Saab's future and its hotly tipped sale to Dutch supercar manufacturer Spyker, possibly in association with the Swedish government.
The press conference could also be regarding the position of Whitacre himself, as he is still only acting CEO after taking over from Fritz Henderson last year. Whitacre is the favorite to land the job on a full-time basis.
